Play of the Day
The Knights were off their game in the first half but came up with a spectacular 80m try to Ben Kennedy 30 seconds from the break. Timana Tahu and Anthony Quinn set the wheels in motion, Kurt Gidley and Sean Rudder kept the play alive and Kennedy finished it off.
Turning Point
The game was gone for Newcastle when Shane Millard scored from dummy-half for a 36-22 lead in the 67th minute. The Knights still had a chance to pull within 10 points and claim the minor premiership
but Josh Perry lost the ball
millimetres from the line trying to score in the 77th minute.
Man of the Match
Front-rower Jason Ryles took the Dragons forward with power and precision. He bashed holes through Newcastle's ruck defence and created second-phase play with deft passes.
From the Sheds
'Today was a game which
we had to win to get into the semi-finals. I don't think it
was anything more than that.'
- Dragons coach
Andrew Farrar.
'That wasn't our best
performance by any means.
I thought we were fairly
disappointing in a lot of areas
of our game.'
- Knights coach Michael Hagan.
